The Pentair R171097 is the tube support spring for Rainbow automatic chlorinator feeders, models 320 and 322. It is the genuine Pentair replacement.
What it does
The spring lives inside the feed tube and keeps it round. Without it the tube softens with age and chemical exposure, then flattens under suction, and the feeder stops drawing at the rate the dial is set to.
The symptom
Chlorine demand that will not come down, with a feeder that looks like it is working. Open the unit and check the tube. If it is kinked, flattened or has taken a permanent bend, replace the spring along with the tube.
It is a low cost part and easy to fit, so it is worth doing while the feeder is already apart for o-ring or tube service.
