The Waterway 310-4200 is the 3 HP impeller for the Executive pump. It is the genuine Waterway part and appears on both the 48 frame and 56 frame Executive breakdowns.
What the impeller does
The impeller is the only moving part in the wet end. It spins with the motor shaft and throws water outward, and its vane profile is what produces the flow and the head pressure the rest of the system depends on. Vanes wear, chip and pack with grit, and the loss is gradual, so a pool that once turned over easily quietly stops keeping up.
Match the horsepower
Waterway uses a different impeller for each Executive horsepower rating. This one is the 3 HP part. Putting a mismatched impeller on a motor changes where the pump sits on its curve, so confirm the rating on the pump before ordering.
While the wet end is open
The impeller threads onto the motor shaft in front of the shaft seal, and the seal has to be disturbed to remove it. Replacing the seal during the same teardown saves opening the pump twice.
