The Waterway 310-3990 is the 3/4 horsepower impeller for the Hi-Flo pump family. It is the genuine Waterway part, the same impeller the pump left the factory with.
What the impeller does
The impeller is the only moving part in the wet end. It spins on the motor shaft and throws water outward, and everything the pump delivers at the returns comes from it. When the vanes wear thin, or fine debris packs into them, the pump keeps running at full speed while moving noticeably less water. Owners usually notice slow returns, a skimmer that will not pull, and a pump that takes longer to prime.
Match the horsepower
Impellers are cut for a specific horsepower. This one is the 3/4 HP version, so check the motor label before ordering rather than going by the size of the pump.
While the wet end is open
Getting to the impeller means opening the pump, which is the natural moment to look at the shaft seal behind it and the wear ring around it. Replacing those in the same teardown saves a second strip down later.
