Product details

The Waterway 319-2170 is the six inch trap basket body used on the Workhorse and Hi-Flo pumps. It is the housing the strainer basket sits inside, ahead of the pump wet end.

Connections

The plumbing side is a 1-1/2 inch FPT thread. The source describes the union side two ways, as a 1.5 inch by 2 inch union in the product title and as a 1.5 inch FPT by 2 inch union flange in the description, so both are listed in the specifications above. The reliable way to check fit is by the flange diameters: 2-7/8 inch outside diameter on the pump side and 2-3/8 inch outside diameter on the plumbing side. Measure the trap you are removing before you order.

When to replace it

A trap body is a pressure vessel with threads in it. Once it has cracked from freezing, stripped an inlet thread or split around the union, it draws air on every cycle and the pump loses prime. There is no lasting repair for a cracked trap.

This part is the body alone. The trap cover, the cover o-ring and the strainer basket are all sold separately, and the o-ring in particular is worth renewing while the pump is open.
