Product details

The Waterway 319-2160 is the six inch pump trap body with 1.5 inch by 1.5 inch ports, used on Waterway center discharge pool pumps. It is the genuine Waterway part.

What the trap body is

It is the housing ahead of the impeller that holds the strainer basket. Everything the suction line brings back arrives here first, and the six inch trap holds a larger basket, which means longer between emptying on a pool with a heavy leaf load.

When the body itself has to go

Most trap problems are sealing problems, solved with a lid o-ring. A cracked body is different. Cracks start at a port boss or where a union has been over tightened, and on the suction side they pull air rather than leak water, so the pump loses prime and there is nothing visible to point at. If the housing is cracked or the port threads are damaged, the body is replaced. While the pump is apart, look at the basket, the trap cover and its o-ring, all of which are ordered separately.

No. This is the trap body. The basket, the trap cover and the cover o-ring are separate Waterway parts.
Why would a trap body be replaced instead of resealed?
Because the leak is in the plastic, not the seal. Once the body cracks, usually at a port boss or where it has been over tightened, it draws air on the suction side and the pump loses prime no matter how well the lid seals.
