What it does

The basket sits in the strainer pot ahead of the impeller and holds back leaves, grit and anything else the suction line picks up. Everything downstream depends on it doing that job cleanly.

When to change it

A basket that has cracked or split no longer holds debris, and what gets through goes on to the impeller. Replacing a damaged basket is far cheaper than the repair that follows if it is left in place.
