Product details

The Pentair 356156Z is the diffuser for the 3HP IntelliFlo3 pool pump. It is the genuine Pentair replacement.

What the diffuser does

It fits closely around the impeller and channels water off the impeller vanes into the volute. That close fit is what turns impeller speed into pressure. As the diffuser wears, the gap opens up, water recirculates inside the pump and flow at the returns drops without anything looking obviously wrong.

Match the horsepower

This part is listed for the 3HP IntelliFlo3. The diffuser is matched to the impeller, so the 1.5HP pump takes a different part. Check the model plate before ordering, and if the impeller is worn it is worth replacing both together along with the pump seal set.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Does this fit the 1.5HP IntelliFlo3?
No. This diffuser is listed for the 3HP IntelliFlo3. The horsepower matters because the diffuser is matched to the impeller.
What does a diffuser do?
It surrounds the impeller and channels water off it into the volute. Without a good seal at the diffuser, water circles back inside the pump instead of being pushed to the filter.
How do I know mine is worn?
Reduced flow with no obvious blockage, especially after several seasons, often points to a worn diffuser and impeller pair rather than a suction problem.
Is it a genuine Pentair part?
Yes. It is the Pentair OEM diffuser, part number 356156Z.
