The Pentair 356156Z is the diffuser for the 3HP IntelliFlo3 pool pump. It is the genuine Pentair replacement.
What the diffuser does
It fits closely around the impeller and channels water off the impeller vanes into the volute. That close fit is what turns impeller speed into pressure. As the diffuser wears, the gap opens up, water recirculates inside the pump and flow at the returns drops without anything looking obviously wrong.
Match the horsepower
This part is listed for the 3HP IntelliFlo3. The diffuser is matched to the impeller, so the 1.5HP pump takes a different part. Check the model plate before ordering, and if the impeller is worn it is worth replacing both together along with the pump seal set.
