Product details

The Hayward HPX11024151 is a 7.5uF capacitor for Summit and HeatMaster heat pumps. It is the genuine Hayward part.

Which units it covers

Hayward lists this capacitor as compatible with the SUM5TAC, SUM8TA, HML110TA and HML125TA models. Check your heat pump manual against that list, and against the rating printed on the capacitor already in the unit, before you order.

Why capacitors fail

A capacitor gives a motor the push it needs to start and helps it run efficiently afterwards. Heat and years of cycling wear it out. The symptoms are familiar: a motor that hums without turning, a fan that will only start if you nudge it, or a capacitor whose case has swollen or vented. Replacing it is inexpensive next to the motor it protects.

Safety

Capacitors store a charge even after the power has been switched off, and that charge has to be discharged safely before the old part is handled. If that is not work you have done before, have a pool technician do the swap.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Which heat pumps does it fit?
Hayward lists it as compatible with the SUM5TAC, SUM8TA, HML110TA and HML125TA models in the Summit and HeatMaster lines.
What is the rating?
7.5uF. Check the rating printed on the capacitor you are replacing against that number before fitting.
How do I know the capacitor has failed?
The usual signs are a motor that hums but will not spin up, a fan that needs a push to start, and a capacitor whose case has bulged or vented.
Can I fit it myself?
Capacitors hold a charge after the power is off and must be discharged before handling. If you have not done that safely before, have a technician replace it.
