Product details

The Pentair 473787Z is the thermostatic expansion valve for the UltraTemp 120, 120C and 90I pool heat pumps. It is the genuine Pentair part, rated at 97 psig and 8 ton.

What the valve does

A heat pump makes heat by moving refrigerant through a cycle, and the expansion valve is what meters that refrigerant into the evaporator coil. Get too little through and the unit cannot absorb heat from the air; get too much and it floods. When the valve stops metering correctly the symptom is usually a heat pump that runs and runs but never brings the pool up.

This valve is specific to the UltraTemp 120, 120C and 90I. The larger UltraTemp 140, 140C and 140HC take a different Pentair expansion valve, so check the model plate on your unit before ordering.
