Why the fan matters
A heat pump takes its heat out of the air, and the fan is what keeps moving air across the evaporator coil. When the fan stops or slows, the unit loses its heat source: it either produces almost nothing or trips out on pressure while the compressor keeps running. If the fan hums but will not start, check the capacitor too, because a weak one gives the same symptom as a dead motor.
Fitting
It replaces the original motor in the top assembly of the heat pump. Cut power at the breaker first, note the wiring and the blade position on the shaft before you pull the old motor, and set the new blade at the same height in the shroud.
