Product details

The Hayward SMX11023511 is the heating and cooling control board for the HeatPro heat pump. It is the genuine Hayward part, listed as the replacement board for the HP31154T.

What the board does

The control board is the part that makes a heat pump a heat pump. It reads the temperature sensors and the pressure switches, decides when to bring the compressor on, runs the fan, and on a heating and cooling unit it drives the reversing valve that switches the machine between the two modes. When the board fails, nothing else in the unit gets a command, so a healthy compressor and fan sit idle.

Why they fail

The board lives outdoors in a cabinet that gets hot, damp and occasionally full of insects. Heat cycling, moisture and voltage surges are the usual causes. The symptoms are a display that will not light, a unit that ignores a call for heat, or erratic behavior with no fault found in the refrigerant circuit.

Before ordering

Read the model number off the data plate on the unit. HeatPro boards are model specific and are not interchangeable across the range, and this one is the heating and cooling board rather than a heat only board.
