The Pentair 744000280 is the pH sensor cable for the IntelliChem chemical controller, ten feet long. It is the genuine Pentair part, the same cable supplied with the controller.
What it does
IntelliChem watches pH and ORP and feeds acid or sanitizer based on what the probes report. The cable is the only path between the pH probe and the controller, so anything that degrades it, water in the connector, corrosion on the pins, a crushed or nicked run of cable, shows up as a reading that jumps around or disappears. The controller does not know the signal is bad, it just doses on it.
Before you order
Clean and calibrate the probe first. If the reading is still unstable, the cable is the next suspect. This is the pH side only, and the sensor itself is a separate part, so replace the piece that has actually failed rather than both.
