The Pentair 356155Z is the genuine diffuser for the IntelliFlo3 VSF 1.5 HP variable speed pool pump. It is the same part the pump leaves the factory with.
What the diffuser does
The impeller flings water outward at speed. The diffuser sits over it and channels that flow into the volute, where the motion becomes usable pressure. If the diffuser cracks, wears at the impeller face or loses its shape, water short circuits back around the impeller instead of moving through the system. The pump keeps running, sometimes quietly, but flow and head drop and the filter and heater downstream get less than they need.
When to replace it
Change the diffuser when it is cracked, chipped at the eye or visibly worn from debris. It is also worth replacing while the wet end is already open for an impeller, shaft seal or seal plate job, because getting back to it later means taking the same parts off again.
