Product details

The Hayward Pro-Grid DE3620 is a vertical grid diatomaceous earth filter with 36 sq ft of filter area, listed as part W3DE3620. The valve is not included.

How DE filtration works

Diatomaceous earth is a porous powder. Magnified, each grain looks like a tiny sponge, full of microscopic openings. Water passes through those openings but particles as small as two to five microns are trapped on the first pass. Inside the filter, the grids become coated with DE, and it is that filter cake that strains dirt, dust and algae out of the water.

Keeping it clean

Like a sand filter, a DE filter is cleaned when it gets dirty, either by backwashing or by regenerating and draining the clogged DE to the waste line. Filtration is restored by adding a fresh charge of DE, so plan on keeping DE on hand as a running cost.

The valve is a separate purchase, which lets you match a multiport or slide valve to the plumbing already at the pad.
