The Pentair 071725S is the shaft seal package for EQ Series and C Series pumps. It is the genuine Pentair service part.
What a shaft seal does
The motor shaft passes out of the wet end of the pump and into the motor. The shaft seal is what closes that opening, protecting the internal components from the water being pumped. It runs as two lapped faces held together, one turning with the shaft and one fixed, and it wears every hour the pump runs.
The symptom
Water dripping from between the seal plate and the motor, often with rust streaks down the motor face. Left alone it soaks the bearings and takes the motor with it, which turns a small part into a large one.
Fitting
The seal comes as a package so the faces stay matched and clean, which is what a seal needs to last. Keep the faces free of grease and grit on installation.
