Product details

The Hayward W3SP2610X15 is a Super Pump with a 1.5 HP uprated single speed motor that runs on 115 or 230 V. Hayward designed the Super Pump as a self priming pump for in-ground pools and spas running large filters, heaters and cleaners.

Built for easy upkeep

The strainer holds a 110 cubic inch basket, so it can go longer between cleanings. The see-through cover shows when the basket is full, and swing-aside hand knobs release the cover by hand. Components are molded from corrosion-proof reinforced thermoplastic, the seal is a heat resistant industrial size ceramic seal, and the one-piece housing has full-flow ports for quick priming. When service is needed, four bolts release the motor and drive assembly without disturbing the pipes or the mounting base.

Installation

Mount the pump on a firm, level base close to the pool, with a straight run of pipe at least five pipe diameters long ahead of the inlet. The 1-1/2 in. ports are threaded, so use Teflon tape on fittings and never pipe dope. The motor must be wired for the supply voltage by a licensed electrician on a GFCI protected circuit and bonded to the pool structure with No. 8 or larger solid copper wire. Its automatic thermal overload protector shuts the motor off if it overheats, which is often a sign of low voltage from undersized wiring.

Freezing weather

Do not let the pump freeze. Drain the pump and piping when freezing temperatures are expected, and use only propylene glycol if the system needs antifreeze.

Can it run on 115 V or 230 V?
Yes. It is a 115/230 V pump, and the motor has to be wired for the supply voltage using the diagram on the motor label. For a 1-1/2 HP motor on a run up to 50 ft, Hayward suggests a 30 A breaker with No. 10 copper wire at 115 V, or a 15 A breaker with No. 14 copper wire at 230 V. A licensed electrician should do the wiring, on a GFCI protected circuit.
Is it self priming?
Yes. Single speed Super Pumps self prime to 10 ft. Fill the strainer housing with water up to the suction pipe before starting, and allow up to five minutes for it to prime. Never run it dry, since the water cools and lubricates the shaft seal.
What size pipe does it use?
1-1/2 in. The suction and outlet ports are threaded with molded-in thread stops, so seal fittings with Teflon tape rather than pipe dope, which can crack the plastic. Hayward's sizing chart puts the maximum recommended flow in 1-1/2 in. pipe at 50.76 GPM.
Which parts are replaced most often?
The shaft seal wears over time and is replaced with the Hayward seal assembly, SPX1600Z2. The strainer cover gasket, SPX1600S, should be inspected regularly and lubricated each time the cover comes off, and the strainer basket is SPX1600M.
