The SuperPro G-418-9 is a generic valve seat gasket built to replace the Hayward SPX0740D. It is the part commonly called a spider gasket, and it is the seal that sits at the valve seat.

When to change it

Seat gaskets are rubber, and rubber hardens, flattens and eventually splits. A gasket that has taken a set no longer seals cleanly against the seat, and the usual result is water passing where it should be shut off. It is worth fitting a fresh one any time the valve is opened up, because the gasket costs very little next to the valve it protects.
