Product details

The Pentair 71427 is the H-Series valve body o-ring. It is the genuine factory seal for the valve body, and it turns up on several older valve families.

Where it is used

Pentair lists it for the American Products 2 in. H and M Series multiport valves, and for the Purex 2000 Series backwash valves fitted to SM and SMBW filters. It also appears in the QuietFlo and Aquatron pump parts listings.

Why it fails

O-rings do not wear out so much as they harden. Years of heat, chlorine and compression take the spring out of the rubber, it takes a permanent set, and the seal starts weeping at the body. The leak looks like a failed valve, which is how a five dollar part ends up costing someone a whole multiport.

While you are in there

The union o-ring and the rotor shaft o-ring are separate parts. If the valve is coming apart anyway, it is worth having all three on hand rather than opening it twice.
