The Pentair 236704 is the Style II G2 Series non-venturi retro cleaning head internal, in black. It is the genuine Pentair part.

What an internal is

An in floor cleaning system has a housing set permanently into the pool floor and an internal that drops into it. The internal is the moving part: it rises with water pressure, sweeps debris toward the main drain and drops back down when the valve sends water to the next zone. The housing outlasts several internals.

Venturi and non-venturi

The G2 range is built in both configurations. This one is the non-venturi internal. The two are not interchangeable in the way a system was designed, so replace like for like and check the part number on what you pull out before ordering.

Symptoms of a worn internal

Heads that no longer rotate, that stop popping up, or that stay proud of the floor permanently have worn where the mechanism indexes. That is a replacement rather than a repair, and it is done from the pool side without touching the plumbing.

No. It is the internal, the part that fits into a housing already set in the pool floor. Complete heads with risers are sold separately.
