Product details
The Purex JV18 is the rotor shaft O-ring for the Pentair SM and SMBW 2000 series backwash valves. Purex is now part of Pentair, and the part number carried over unchanged.
What it seals
It sits around the rotor shaft inside the valve. Like any O-ring in a moving joint, it hardens and takes a set with age and chemical exposure, and when it does the valve starts to weep at the shaft under pressure.
Before you order
A backwash valve carries several O-rings of broadly similar size, so check yours against the parts diagram for the valve rather than by eye. If the valve is coming apart anyway, the rest of the seals in it are the same age and cost the same labor, and doing them together saves opening the valve twice.
