The Hayward SX244CD1FW is the top elbow assembly for the Pro Series S244S sand filter, in the version manufactured after 1996. It is the genuine Hayward part.

Identifying the right elbow

Hayward changed the internals on this filter, so the year matters. The elbow supplied here has S244-ET molded into the body. Take the old one out and read the molding: if it says S244-ET, this is the replacement. If it does not, the tank predates the change and needs the earlier part.

Getting to it

The elbow sits inside the tank as part of the underdrain plumbing, so replacing it means opening the filter and working the sand clear of the laterals. It is worth checking the hub, the laterals and the bulkhead O-ring while the tank is open, since they are all in reach at the same time.
