What it does
A push-pull valve moves between filter and backwash by sliding the stem in and out. The position bracket is what tells the handle where those stops are and holds it there. When the bracket cracks or goes missing, the handle no longer indexes, and a valve that will not hold its position is a valve that cannot be trusted to stay in filter.
