Product details

The Pentair 072431Z is the positive diverter seal for 2 inch diverter valves. It is the genuine Pentair part.

What the seal does

A positive diverter is meant to close a port outright, not just bias flow toward one side. The seal is what makes that possible: it presses against the valve body so the shut side is genuinely shut. As the seal hardens with age and chemical exposure, water finds its way past, and a port that reads closed at the handle is still passing flow. That shows up as a spa that will not hold its return, or a suction line that keeps pulling when it should be isolated.

Before you order

Confirm the valve size. This is the 2 inch seal, and the 1-1/2 inch valve uses a different Pentair part. While the valve is apart it is worth looking at the shaft and the cover o-rings, since a valve that has been stiff to turn has usually taken its wear in more than one place.

What size valve is this seal for?
The 2 inch valve. Pentair sells a separate seal for the 1-1/2 inch valve, so check the valve size before ordering.
What does a positive diverter seal do?
It is what makes the diverter shut a port completely instead of only reducing flow to it. When the seal hardens or wears, water crosses over to the port you meant to close.
Does this include the diverter itself?
No. It is the seal alone. The diverter, the shaft and the valve o-rings are separate parts.
How do I know the seal is worn?
If turning the handle fully to one side still leaves flow going the other way, or the valve has become hard to turn, the diverter seal is the usual cause.
