What the equalizer is for
A skimmer has two suction ports. The main one is the skimmer mouth at the waterline, where surface debris comes in. The second, the equalizer, is plumbed to a fitting through the pool wall below the water line. If the level in the pool falls below the skimmer mouth, the equalizer keeps water flowing to the pump instead of letting it pull air and run dry.
