Product details

The Hayward SPX0540Z2 is the special hi-temp lens gasket for Duralite underwater lights, listed for the parts group covering models SP0540 through SP0570. It is the seal between the lens and the fixture housing.

Why the hi-temp version

An incandescent lamp puts real heat into a sealed fixture. The special hi-temp compound is made to live with that without hardening and shrinking the way an ordinary gasket would, so it keeps its squeeze and keeps water out for longer.

Replace it every time the light is opened

A gasket that has been clamped and heat cycled takes a permanent set in the shape of its groove. Put it back and it may look fine, but it no longer has the spring to seal against a freshly torqued lens. Fitting a new gasket at every re lamp is the single cheapest way to avoid a flooded fixture.

Do I need to replace the gasket when I change the bulb?
Yes. Once a gasket has been compressed and heat cycled it takes a permanent set, and reusing it is the most common reason a fixture floods.
What does hi-temp mean here?
The gasket compound is rated for the higher temperatures inside an incandescent fixture, so it does not harden and shrink as quickly as a standard gasket.
How do I know the old one failed?
Water inside the lens, condensation on the glass, or a lamp that keeps failing early all point at a gasket that is no longer sealing.
