Product details

Sta-Rite U9-161 is the o-ring for the 5 inch trap lid, listed by Sta-Rite as the O-19. It is the genuine replacement for the seal between the strainer pot and its lid.

Why it matters

Everything upstream of the impeller runs under vacuum, so the trap lid seal is the one part standing between the pump and a lungful of air. When the ring goes hard, flattens or splits, the pump draws air past the lid instead of water from the pool, and the symptom owners notice is a pump that will not hold prime or a basket that never fills.

Fitting

Clean the groove and the sealing face before the new ring goes in, then give it a light film of silicone lubricant so it seats without rolling or pinching. Sta-Rite lists this ring against the CFA series and CF bronze pumps and the Premier 456-B/N, 556N and 556-AB series, so check your parts diagram if you are unsure which lid you have.
