Product details

The Sta-Rite U9-389 is the housing O-Ring for the PLBC booster pump, measuring 9" x 9-1/2" x .275. It is the seal that sits between the two housing halves and keeps the pump from leaking at the seam.

Why it fails

A booster pump O-Ring lives between heat, pressure and chlorinated water. Over a few seasons it takes a permanent set, loses its round section and stops springing back against the groove. The first sign is usually a slow weep at the housing joint that turns into a steady drip, and the pump can start losing prime once air gets past the same gap.

Fitting

Clean the groove and the mating face before the new ring goes in, so it lies flat all the way round with nothing trapped under it. Pull the housing bolts up evenly rather than tightening one side at a time, which is what pinches a fresh ring and puts you back where you started.
