Product details

The Pentair 71445 is the seal plate o-ring for WhisperFlo WF and WFE pumps and for Purex Triton pumps built on the same wet end. It is the genuine Pentair part.

What it seals

The seal plate carries the motor and the mechanical shaft seal, and it bolts up against the pump volute. This o-ring is the seal on that joint. If it is flat, cracked or has taken a permanent set, the pump leaks or draws air at the split line no matter how good the shaft seal is.

Check the age of your pump

Pentair lists this ring for the seal plate used in manufacturing prior to June 1994. Older WhisperFlo and Purex Triton wet ends take this size, and pumps built after that change can use a different one. Measure the old ring or match it against the new one before you reassemble.

Fitting

Replace the o-ring any time the pump is opened rather than reusing the old one, and put a silicone based o-ring lubricant on it so it seats evenly and releases cleanly next time.

What does the pre 6/94 note mean?
Pentair changed the seal plate during production. This o-ring is listed for the seal plate used in manufacturing before June 1994, so an early pump takes this ring and a later one may take a different size.
Where does it go?
Between the seal plate and the pump volute. It is the seal you break when you separate the motor and seal plate from the pump body to reach the impeller.
Should I lubricate it?
Yes. A silicone based o-ring lubricant helps the ring seat evenly and keeps it from sticking when the pump is next opened. Do not use petroleum grease.
