This is the Pentair union kit, part 357603, containing two unions in 2 in slip by 2 in MPT. It is made for the IntelliFlo VF, IntelliFlo and IntelliPro variable speed pumps.
Why two
A pump needs a union on each side to come out of the system. With both fitted, servicing the pump or replacing it later is a matter of unscrewing two collars. Without them it is a saw and a pile of couplings.
Connections
The pipe side is 2 in slip, so it glues onto rigid PVC. The pump side is 2 in male pipe thread, which screws into the port. Thread sealant on the MPT side and a light lubricant on the union O-ring are the usual practice.
