Product details

The Pentair MasterTemp in propane, part EC-462027, is the 250,000 BTU model. It is a gas fired heater for pools and spas, sold in the LP gas configuration rather than natural gas.

Controls that make sense

Pentair built the MasterTemp control to work the way a home heating system works. The LCD display reports what the heater is doing in readable terms, and troubleshooting icons flag the cause when it stops, so a fault does not turn into guesswork at the pad.

Size and sound

The cabinet is compact, which matters on a crowded equipment pad, and the heater runs quietly. Between the two it can sit near the patio without dominating the space around the pool.

Before you order

Confirm you are on propane and not natural gas, since the two are different part numbers and a heater cannot simply be swapped between fuels without the correct conversion.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What is the difference between EC-462027 and 460733?
Both are Pentair's MasterTemp 250 for propane. Pentair keeps part numbers that begin with EC- for online sale and sells 460733 through dealers. This listing is EC-462027.
What warranty does Pentair give the propane MasterTemp 250, EC-462027?
One year, parts only. That is Pentair's warranty for its e-commerce (EC) models and for online purchases. The two years printed in Pentair's brochures is its standard warranty, which does not cover a heater bought online.
Where is the manual for the propane MasterTemp 250?
Under Downloads on this page, as the Owners Manual. It is Pentair's MasterTemp Installation and User's Guide, part number 472592, which covers the 175,000 to 400,000 BTU models in natural gas and propane, the HD and ASME versions included.
How do I reset a MasterTemp 250 after an error code?
It depends on the code. Pentair's manual clears ERR IGN with the HEATER OFF button and ERR AGS by cycling the power, and ERR PS clears by itself once water is flowing. A code that comes back is the heater reporting a fault, so find the cause first. Our pool heater error code guide goes through each one.
Is EC-462027 the natural gas or the propane MasterTemp 250?
Propane. Pentair builds each MasterTemp 250 for one fuel, and the natural gas version is a separate part number.
Can the propane MasterTemp 250 be converted to natural gas?
Pentair's manual says not to attempt a fuel conversion yourself and to refer it to a qualified service technician or gas supplier. If the pool is on natural gas, the natural gas MasterTemp 250 is the heater to order.
