Product details

The Pentair 340014 is the EQW300, the single phase 3 HP water feature model in the EQ Series high performance commercial pump line. It is built for waterfalls and similar features and is supplied without a strainer pot.

The EQ Series build

EQ Series pumps are non-corrosive, all-plastic pumps designed for commercial pool and water applications, fitted with NEMA Premium efficiency motors. The pump is close coupled for quiet, stable running, uses a closed impeller, and has a heat resistant mechanical seal rated for water up to 150 degrees F. Pentair rates this model at 3 HP on single phase 208/230 V, with 19.5-19.2 full load amps, a 1.15 service factor and a motor with integral thermal protection. It is ETL listed.

Plumbing

The pump takes a 6 in. flanged suction and a 4 in. flanged discharge, made up with ANSI Class 150 plastic flanges and full flange gaskets. Without a pot on the front, some off the shelf 6 in. flange adapters foul the strainer pot alignment lip, so use Pentair kit 357212, made for the version without a strainer. Pentair also asks for a straight run of at least five pipe diameters ahead of the suction, which is 30 in. on 6 in. pipe, no 90 degree elbow fitted directly into either port, and pipe supports within 3 ft of both connections so the pump does not carry the weight of the piping.

Shipping and setup

Pentair lists the pump at 97 lb without a strainer pot, so it ships by freight. Set it on a solid, flat, well drained foundation, and have it wired by a licensed electrician on a dedicated circuit sized from the motor nameplate.

Does this pump include a strainer pot?
No. Part 340014 is the EQW300 without the pot. Pentair sells the same single phase pump with the strainer pot fitted as 340026, and lists the complete EQ Series 6 x 6 in. strainer pot as part 340013. Without a pot, make sure debris is stopped before it reaches the impeller.
What electrical service does it need?
Single phase 208/230 V. Pentair lists 19.5-19.2 full load amps, 21.5 service factor amps and a 1.15 service factor. Pentair recommends a dedicated power line, and a licensed electrician should size the wiring and circuit protection from the motor nameplate.
How do I connect 6 in. pipe to it?
Use ANSI Class 150 plastic flanges with 1/8 in. thick full flange Class 150 gaskets. Some non-Pentair 6 in. flange adapters have tabs that hit the strainer pot alignment lip on the pump housing, so Pentair offers flange kit 357212 for the version without a strainer.
How long does the EQW300 take to prime?
Longer than a typical self priming pump. Pentair notes the EQW300 can need up to 1 hour and 15 minutes to prime at 10 ft above the water, against the 45 minute standard for its self priming pumps. Never start it dry: Pentair warns that running without water can damage the seal within seconds.
