Why the wear ring matters

The wear ring sits around the impeller and sets the clearance the pump runs at. It is designed to wear so the volute does not. Once that gap opens up, water recirculates inside the pump instead of going out to the returns, and the symptom is falling flow and pressure from a motor that still sounds healthy.

Fitting

Getting to the wear ring means opening the pump, so it is normal to replace the shaft seal and any hardened gaskets in the same job rather than pulling the pump apart twice. Match the horsepower first: this ring covers the 4 HP and 5 HP Executive, not the smaller models.
