The Sta-Rite C1-216P is the pump diffuser for 1/2 horsepower full rate and 3/4 horsepower up rate pool pumps. Those two ratings describe the same hydraulics, which is why one diffuser covers both.
What the diffuser does
It wraps around the impeller and converts the velocity leaving the vanes into pressure. The clearance between the two is what makes that work, so a diffuser that has worn, cracked or lost its face costs flow everywhere downstream, at the filter, the heater and the returns.
Service notes
Grit passing through the pump is the usual cause of wear, and it wears the impeller at the same rate. Inspect both while the seal plate is off, and plan on replacing them together if either is worn.
