Quick overview

  • Pentair part 229940 The manufacturer tool rather than an improvised substitute.
  • For all Style 2 pop-up heads Designed around the Style 2 head pattern.
  • Three prong engagement The prongs pick up the head evenly, so it turns instead of binding.
  • Install, remove and clean One tool covers all three jobs on a pop-up head.
  • Plastic construction Will not scratch or gall the head the way a screwdriver or pliers do.
  • Protects head life Levering a head out without the tool is the fastest way to break one, and heads cost far more than the tool.

Product details

The Pentair 229940 is the Style 2 plastic installation tool, a three prong tool made for Style 2 pop-up heads in an in floor cleaning system.

What it does

Pop-up heads sit flush in the pool floor and have to come out for cleaning and replacement. The three prongs on this tool engage the head evenly and turn it, so the head lifts instead of binding on one side. The same tool sets a new head back in and holds it while you clean debris out of the nozzle.

Why the right tool pays for itself

Heads are routinely broken by whatever was to hand, usually a screwdriver or a pair of pliers, and a broken head is a much larger job than a stuck one. The tool is plastic on purpose: it grips without scratching or deforming the collar, and one tool serves every Style 2 head in the pool.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What is this tool for?
Installing, removing and cleaning Style 2 pop-up heads in an in floor cleaning system.
Does it fit all Style 2 heads?
Pentair lists it for all Style 2 pop-up heads.
Can I just use pliers?
You can try, and it is how most broken heads get broken. The three prongs engage the head evenly and turn it without deforming the collar, which pliers or a screwdriver will not do.
What is it made of?
Plastic, which is deliberate. It grips the head without scratching or galling it.
