Why a proper wrench
A chlorinator or pump lid that has been on for a season is often too tight for bare hands. The usual improvised fixes, a screwdriver in the slot or a pair of pliers on the rim, put all the force on one small area and crack the lid. This wrench spreads the load across the lid so you can apply steady torque without damage.
Keep it from happening again
Most seized lids are a dry o-ring. Once the lid is off, clean the o-ring and its groove and lubricate before reassembly, and the lid should come off by hand next time.
