The Val-Pak V38-137 is the cam and ramp locking ring for the Ultra-Flow pump trap. Pentair lists the same part as 39105000, and it is manufactured by Val-Pak.

Which trap it suits

It fits American Products, now Pentair, Ultra-Flow pool pump traps manufactured after 1994. Traps built before that changeover used a metal band clamp around the lid rim, which is a different arrangement, so check the pump before you order.

What it does

The locking ring is what pulls the lid down onto the trap and holds the o-ring against its seat. A ring that has gone brittle, cracked at a ramp, or lost the thread on a cam cannot hold that clamping force, and the pump starts sucking air at the lid instead of holding prime. That shows up as a trap that will not fill, air in the lid, or a pump that loses prime overnight.

The ring is supplied on its own. If the pump has been leaking air at the lid for a while, it is worth checking the lid o-ring and its seat at the same time.
