What a coupling does

The coupling sits between the motor and the pump and carries the drive from one to the other. It absorbs the shock of every start and every stop, which is why it is treated as a service part rather than a permanent fitting. A coupling that has split or been chewed up will slip, rattle or fail outright, and the pump will lose performance long before it stops turning.

When to fit one
