Product details

The CMP 25357-004-000 is a front housing for the Pentair Challenger pump family. It is a generic replacement for the OEM threaded housing, part 355302.

When you need a housing

The front housing is the wet end body that the suction and discharge plumbing threads into and that the basket sits inside. Nothing about it is serviceable. Once it has cracked from a freeze, stripped a port thread, or split at a mounting boss, the only fix is a new housing. Trying to seal a cracked volute with epoxy buys weeks at best, and it usually fails under pressure with the pump running unattended.

OEM versus replacement

This is a CMP part, not a Pentair one. It is built to take the place of the 355302 threaded housing at a lower cost, which makes sense when the motor, impeller and seal plate are all still good and only the housing has failed. If your service history calls for factory parts throughout, order the Pentair housing instead.

Since the pump comes fully apart for this job, it is worth renewing the shaft seal, the housing gasket or o-ring, and the strainer basket at the same time.
