The Waterway 310-6500 is the 6 inch pump trap assembly with a 1-1/2 inch inlet and a 2 inch union flange outlet. Waterway lists it under the Hi-Flo pump parts and under the replacement pump strainer trap parts.
Connections
The inlet accepts 1-1/2 in. FPT and 1-1/2 in. buttress thread. The outlet is a 2 inch union flange. Check both ends against your plumbing before ordering, because a trap that is right in every other way is useless if the outlet flange does not match the union you already have.
The new lid
These assemblies now ship with a redesigned lid. It is a two piece design and is much stronger than the single piece lid it replaces, and Waterway confirms it is completely compatible with the old style, so it can go onto an older pump without any other change.
Why the trap gets replaced
The strainer trap takes the suction load, the sun and every impact from the basket going in and out. Once the body is crazed or cracked, or the lid seat will no longer hold a seal, the pump starts drawing air and losing prime, and replacing the whole assembly is the honest fix.
