Product details

The Hayward HCXP6001A is the genuine strainer lid for the HCP pump, supplied complete with its o-ring.

Why the lid matters

The strainer lid sits on the suction side of the pump, so anything less than a clean seal lets the pump draw air instead of water. That shows up as a pump that will not hold prime, a strainer pot that keeps filling with air, or flow that surges and drops. The usual culprits are a lid that has crazed or cracked in the sun and an o-ring that has gone flat or picked up a nick.

Fitting it

Because the lid and o-ring are supplied together, you are not reusing a tired seal under a new lid. Wipe the sealing face clean, put a thin film of silicone lubricant on the o-ring so it seats evenly, and hand tighten the lid. Over tightening is the fastest way to crack the next one.
