Product details

The Pentair 400020Z is the replacement impeller for the 2 HP Whisperflo XF pool pump.

What the impeller does

The impeller is the spinning part that actually moves the water. It is matched to the motor rating, which is why a 2 HP impeller goes on a 2 HP pump and not on any other. Sand and grit that slips past the strainer basket wears the vanes down over the years, and debris can pack the passages solid.

When to change it

If the pump primes, runs and sounds normal but flow is down, and you have already cleared the basket and ruled out a suction side leak, the impeller is the next thing to inspect. Order it by part number, since impellers for different ratings are hard to tell apart by eye.
