Why it is an assembly and not just a motor
An EcoStar is not a conventional pump with a speed switch bolted on. The variable speed drive electronics are part of the motor unit, which is why Hayward supplies this as an assembly rather than as a bare motor. That also means a standard single speed replacement motor is not an option here.
What you keep
The pump housing, strainer pot and the plumbing at the pad all stay in place. Only the motor assembly changes, so a failed EcoStar goes back into service without disturbing the rest of the equipment pad. Fit a new mechanical seal while the motor is off, since the old one will not reseal reliably.
