Product details
The Hayward SPX2800B is the diffuser used across the Max-Flo pump range. It is the genuine Hayward part, the same one fitted at the factory.
What the diffuser does
The diffuser sits over the impeller and channels what the impeller throws outward into a smooth path toward the pump discharge. It also forms the seal on the suction side of the impeller. When it cracks, wears, or is pushed out of position, water recirculates inside the volute instead of going out to the filter, and the pump moves less water while drawing the same power.
When to change it
A Max-Flo that primes normally, has no air leak and a clean basket, but is clearly moving less water than it used to, is a good candidate. The diffuser is also a routine item to change while the pump is open for an impeller or seal job, since it is right there and cheap relative to a second teardown.
