Product details

The Hayward SPX1621C is the genuine replacement impeller for the Super Pump, in the 2.5 HP max rate and 2 HP full rate size. It is listed for the SP1600, SP1600X, SP2600 and SP2600X.

What the impeller does

The impeller is the part that actually moves the water. It spins on the motor shaft and throws water out to the volute, and everything downstream of it, filter, heater, returns, depends on the flow it makes. When the vanes wear, crack, or fill with sand and debris, flow drops even though the pump sounds normal and the basket is clean.

Get the rating right

Impellers are matched to motor horsepower, which is why Hayward sells several for the same pump body. This one is the 2.5 HP max rate, 2 HP full rate part. Check the rating on the motor label before ordering, because an impeller from a different size will run but will not deliver the curve the pump was built around.

While you are in there

Reaching the impeller means pulling the seal plate, which disturbs the shaft seal. Fitting a fresh seal at the same time saves doing the same teardown again a month later.

Which pumps does this impeller fit?
It is listed for the Hayward Super Pump, models SP1600, SP1600X, SP2600 and SP2600X.
Does the horsepower have to match?
Yes. This one is 2.5 HP max rate and 2 HP full rate. Impellers are matched to the motor, so fitting the wrong rating will not give you the performance the pump was designed for.
Do I need a new shaft seal as well?
The impeller comes off the motor shaft behind the seal plate, so the shaft seal is disturbed during the job. Most techs replace it at the same time rather than reuse it.
How do I know the impeller is the problem?
Weak flow with a clean basket, a clean filter and a pump that primes normally usually points at an impeller that is worn or packed with debris.
