The Hayward SPX2300E is the seal plate for Max Flo XL pool pumps. It is a new OEM part, the same plate the pump was built with.
What the seal plate does
The seal plate bolts to the back of the volute and to the face of the motor, so it holds the two halves of the pump in alignment. It also houses the stationary half of the shaft seal. Everything about the pump staying dry depends on that bore being round, clean and square to the shaft.
When it needs changing
A plate that has been run dry, overheated or had a leaking seal chewing at it will not hold a new shaft seal. Cracks around the motor bolt bosses, a scored seal bore, or warping you can feel when you set a straight edge across the face all call for a replacement plate rather than another seal. Hayward also lists this plate as a possible fit on other Hayward pump models, so compare it against your parts breakdown before ordering.
