The Hayward HCXP6004A is the pump seal set for the HCP series commercial pumps. It is the genuine Hayward part and is supplied as a set rather than as a single seal.
What the shaft seal does
The seal keeps pool water inside the wet end where the motor shaft passes into the pump. It is a wear part by design: two faces running against each other, cooled and lubricated by the water they are holding back. When those faces wear, or the pump runs dry even briefly, the seal starts to pass water.
Why it matters quickly
A leak at the shaft does not stay a leak. Water runs back along the shaft and into the motor bearings, and a cheap seal job turns into a motor replacement. A drip between the motor and the pump body deserves attention the same week.
Fitting
The seal sits behind the impeller, so the impeller comes off first. With the wet end already apart, check the impeller and the housing o-ring at the same time. Hayward HCP pumps use a thermoplastic design built for long commercial service, and keeping the seal fresh is part of getting that life out of them.
