What a tired impeller does to a cleaner

A booster pump exists to feed a pressure side cleaner. When the impeller wears, erodes or packs with debris, the pump still runs and still sounds normal, but the pressure it delivers falls off. The cleaner slows, loses its climb, or stops moving through its pattern. Owners usually chase the cleaner first and reach the booster pump last.

Replace the seal at the same time

Hayward is explicit about this: fit a new mechanical seal whenever the impeller comes off. The shaft seal assembly is a separate part number. Putting an old seal back behind a new impeller is the most common reason a rebuilt booster pump weeps within the season.
