Which impeller does my Pentair WhisperFlo take?

The one Pentair assigns to the number after the dash in your model code, whatever letters come first: 2 and 23 take 073126, 3 and 24 take 073127, 4 and 26 take 073128, 6 and 28 take 073129, 8 and 30 take 073130, and the 3 HP 12 takes 073131. Diffuser 072927 serves every size through the 8 and 30 pair, and the 12 has its own, 072928. A code that starts with XF, such as XF-12, needs an XF impeller instead.

Water is leaking from under the motor on my Pentair WhisperFlo. What do I replace?

Usually the shaft seal, which presses into the seal plate where the pump body meets the motor. Pentair warns that running a WhisperFlo dry damages that seal and sets off a leak, and lists seal 071734S, or 071732S for ozone and salt pools. Its 356198 kit adds the seal plate gasket and the lid, diffuser and drain plug o-rings. A pump built on or after February 1, 2008 takes the black seal plate gasket 357100; an older one takes the almond 357102.

My Pentair WhisperFlo will not prime. What should I check?

Air first, then water, says Pentair's manual. Make sure the lid is on tight with its o-ring seated, that the suction pipes and valves are not letting air in, and that the pool is high enough to keep the skimmer from gulping air. Then fill the strainer pot, volute and suction line, and clean the strainer. Prime a two speed WFDS on high speed; Pentair allows it 8 minutes at most to catch prime.

My Pentair WhisperFlo has a metal band clamp around the lid. Which lid and o-ring fit it?

The band is the older design, used on WhisperFlo pumps built before November 1998: band 070711, lid 070795 and lid o-ring 071422. Later pumps have the cam and ramp lid 357151 with o-ring 350013. Pentair adds that a pump from before November 1998 needs its volute replacement kit, 357149, whenever the seal plate gasket, volute or seal plate is replaced, and the kit converts the pump to the cam and ramp lid.

What parts does a Pentair WhisperFlo VS or VST share with the single speed WhisperFlo?

Nearly the whole wet end. Pentair's VS and VST guide lists the same strainer pot, lid, clamp, basket, shaft seal and seal plate kit as the single speed, with impeller 073130 and diffuser 072927, the pair in a 2 HP WFE-8, whose fluid end 075455 it also names. Motor 356286S, drive kit 356282 and drive cover 356279 are the same ones Pentair gives SuperFlo VS and VST pumps built after October 2020.

Which impeller fits a Pentair WhisperFloXF?

Look at the number after the XF letters in the model code. Pentair's XF chart gives impeller 400020Z to the 8 and the 30, 400015 to the 12 and 400023Z to the 20, with diffuser 400010 for the first three and 400011Z for the 20, whether the code begins XF, XFE, XFET, XFDS, XFJ or XFK. The XF shares its wet end assembly 400000, its lid and locking ring and its basket with the IntelliFloXF.
