Product details
The Hayward SPX2700SA is the shaft seal assembly for the model 6060 cleaner booster pump. It is the genuine Hayward part, and Hayward also files it under Max-Flo II pump parts.
What the seal does
The shaft seal is the barrier between the wet pump and the dry motor. It rides on the motor shaft where the shaft passes through the seal plate, and it is the one part in a pump guaranteed to wear out. When it goes, water drips from between the motor and the pump body, and if it is left long enough the motor bearings take that water and the motor follows.
Fitting
The seal is reached once the motor and seal plate are separated from the pump body. Handle the polished faces carefully and put them in clean and dry, since a fingerprint or a grain of grit on the face is enough to make a brand new seal weep.
