Product details

The Hayward SPX1250LA is the strainer cover for the Max-Flo 1800 and 2800 model pumps, molded in clear Lexan and supplied with its gasket.

Why the cover matters

The strainer cover sits on the suction side of the pump, which means it is under vacuum whenever the pump runs. Any flaw in the seal pulls air rather than leaking water, and the symptom is a pump that spits air, runs noisy, or refuses to hold prime. Covers crack from over tightening and from years of heat and sun, and gaskets go hard and take a permanent set. Because the cover ships with a new gasket here, both halves of the seal are refreshed at once.

Clear for a reason

Lexan lets you see the basket without opening the pot, so it is obvious at a glance whether the basket is full of leaves or the water level has dropped.

Fitting

Seat the gasket clean and dry into its groove, put a thin film of silicone o-ring lubricant on it, then hand tighten the cover. Tools are what break these lids.

Does the gasket come with it?
Yes. SPX1250LA is the strainer cover supplied with its gasket. The gasket is also sold on its own if the cover itself is still sound.
Which pumps does it fit?
The Hayward Max-Flo 1800 and 2800 model pumps.
My pump keeps losing prime, is this the part?
It often is. A cover that is cracked or crazed, or a gasket that has gone hard and flat, will draw air into the suction side and stop the pump holding prime. Check the cover and gasket before looking further.
Should I grease the gasket?
A light film of silicone based o-ring lubricant helps the gasket seat and keeps the lid from sticking. Do not use a petroleum grease, which attacks the seal.
